PORT KEMBLA STEELWORKS TOUR

A unique and sensory experience!

Get an up close and personal experience of the largest and most dynamic concentration of heavy industry in Australia on this unique guided tour of the spectacular Port Kembla Steelworks.

Taking a truly sensory ‘steelmaking’ experience you will begin with a tour of the Port Kembla Steelworks site, where you will spot everything from monster machinery, giant buildings, locomotives and huge stockpiles of raw materials.

Time to turn up the heat as we climb the stairs to visit the colossal Basic Oxygen Steelmaking (BOS) plant and the continuous slab caster to get the best vantage point of steel production – a truly unique and sensory experience.

In the tour’s final stage, we visit the Hot Strip Mill, where steel slabs are reheated and rolled into coils in a noisy, action-packed process.

Tour Accessbility | Please be aware the tour includes around 300-400 stairs and 2-2.5kms of walking

As a condition of entry all participants must adhere to the following tour clothing/footwear requirements:

  • Fully enclosed comfortable non slip footwear (eg sneakers/runners)
  • Calf length socks (no ankle socks or invisible socks)
  • Full length pants with no rips or splits
  • Participation in Steelwork Tours is subject to all guests agreeing to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – including safety helmets, coveralls, gloves, eye protection and tour-guide receivers (including ear buds) – that is hygienically prepared and provided by Inside Industry. If you foresee challenges with using any of this PPE


BLUE MILE HERITAGE TOUR

Telling the stories of Wollongong's Foreshore

Begin your Wollongong conference experience on this beautiful walking tour, taking in the history, heritage and stories of the Blue Mile.

The Tour takes and tell stories of the many historical sites along the Blue Mile including Wollongong Harbour, the Forts (Flagstaff Hill and Smiths Hill), the Old Courthouse, the Tramway, the Pools and Northbeach.

Along the way experienced Guides will relay the stories of the Foreshore – including its Indigenous history, sea bathing, coal, salt making, trading, the start of industry in Wollongong and how we defended ourselves.

THE WATERFRONT SHELL COVE TOUR

Join us for this in depth tour, focusing on the development and future for The Waterfront Shell Cove. The Waterfront Shell Cove is a major coastal master-planned residential, commercial and tourist development located within the Shellharbour local government area. The flagship centrepiece of the Project is the man-made in-shore Harbour and its surrounding waterfront precincts including a 270 berth Marina.

Join the developers and council, to explore the newest boating destination on the NSW South Coast and discover plans for the development and beyond. The marina offers a safe harbour all year round just 50 nautical miles south of Sydney Harbour and 30 nautical miles north of Jervis Bay.

HOW TO REGISTER

Study Tours will run on Wednesday 18 September 2024 from 12.00pm - 4.00pm (tour times will vary) and bookable when registering for your conference ticket.

Study Tours are not included in your conference ticket and need to be booked in addition. There are limited spaces in each tour, so book early to avoid disappointment!
