Doug works within Maroondah’s Strategic Planning and Sustainability Team providing expertise and strategic guidance on all aspects of the natural environment. He led the inhouse development of the Maroondah Vegetation Strategy 2020-2030, and is currently leading a collaborative approach to developing an action plan to create the Mullum Mullum Creek Biolink.
His passion for nature was evident from an early age and that led to a Bachelor of Science degree (Zoology and Geology) from the University of Adelaide. Later he added a Diploma in Education from Monash University to underpin a career with a strong emphasis on bringing people together around the environment - initially as a secondary school teacher, and then as a Regional Landcare Coordinator with the Port Phillip and Westernport Catchment Management Authority.
His volunteering journey has followed a parallel path, having helped establish Greenlink Sandbelt a community indigenous plant nursery, the Christmas Hills Landcare Group, and the Nillumbik Landcare Network.
Along the way he trained in use of the globally recognised ‘Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation’, a rigorous strategic planning process that only reinforced his desire for logic and clarity of purpose in almost everything he does.
