About the Role
As the Manager Development Assessment you will provide strong leadership and expertise in the Development Assessment Department. You will be responsible for the development and delivery of your department’s Business Plan as linked to Council’s Community Strategic Plan. Your role includes people leadership and management of the day to day operations of the Department’s staff, operations, finances, systems and assets.
You will lead the department in the timely delivery of development assessment, urban planning subject matter expertise and land development specialist services to the Ryde community.
You will provide expert, timely and professional advice to the executive, senior management, customers and other internal and external stakeholders on the Development Assessment process to ensure all staff within the unit work collaboratively and achieve the best outcomes for Council and the community. The role will involve stakeholder management and presenting development applications to the Sydney North Planning Panel as well as the Ryde Local Planning Panel.
This role reports to the Executive Manager, City Development and will support the Executive Manager in the delivery of effective and efficient outcomes for Council. The Manager Development Assessment will drive continuous improvement to enhance productivity and service delivery, provide a consistent and high-quality approach to project delivery by enriching customer service and promoting a positive, safe and professional work environment.
About you
This is an exciting opportunity that will draw on your development assessment expertise and ability to lead and manage a highly skilled and progressive team. You bring to this role proven experience in developing, mentoring and leading a team to success. You will have strong people leadership skills including the ability to delegate, inspire and communicate effectively.
In addition, you also have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning, or equivalent
- Extensive local government experience and understanding of Development Applications, Subdivision Certificates and Construction Certificates
- Experience in the management of staff and the planning and coordination of work to meet timelines
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Strong analytical skills with excellent understanding of local and state government planning legislation
- Well-developed written communication skills with experience in preparing detailed correspondence, reports and submissions
- Excellent verbal communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Commencing salary from $186,368.09 p.a + Superannuation + leaseback (subject to your experience and qualifications).
