A bit about the role
You will lead two teams responsible for the statutory approvals processes within growth areas in Casey to build prosperous and liveable future communities.
What you’ll deliver
- Provide daily advice, coaching, and direction to staff, ensuring effective performance management and individual reviews.
- Encourage and promote a culture of innovation within the team and across the organisation.
- Keep staff informed about planning policies, legislative updates, and relevant Council policies.
- Offer reasoned and logical advice to the Council, CEO, ELT, and SLT, considering statutory obligations and best planning outcomes.
- Contribute to the strategic development and delivery objectives of the department alongside the Growth and Investment leadership team.
- Oversee all land use, development, and subdivision planning applications within UGZ, PSPs, and major development sites.
- Prepare and present detailed reports
- Coordinate and manage appeal and panel submissions, representing the Council at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and panel hearings.
- Oversee all planning matters delegated to the position as per the Council’s Deed of Delegation.
- Ensure projects with Project Control Group (PCG) participants meet shared objectives and adhere to service level agreements in Memorandums of Understanding (MOU).
- Manage daily operations to ensure effective financial management and efficient delivery of statutory planning growth services to the organisation.
What you’ll bring
- Degree or Diploma in Town Planning or related qualification.
- Additional post graduate qualifications or specialisation required to perform the position, or relevant equivalent experience encouraged.
- Extensive experience in statutory planning in growth area setting
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external, networks and ability to influence outcomes.
- Strategic mindset with demonstrated understanding of the economic, political and social issues relating to Local Government and the development sector.
- Financial acumen with the ability to effectively manage and deliver budget including forecasting and resource planning.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check & Psychometric Testing.
- A curious, collaborative, and inclusive community mindset.
