Each year our busy and dedicated team of Planning and Development Specialists assess and approve approximately 2,000 development applications. These consist of a mixture of low to high density residential, commercial, industrial and community uses.
Due to an internal promotion, we are looking to appoint an Urban Planning Assistant who is customer service orientated and has a desire to contribute and grow in a busy Planning and Development team that prides itself on a good working environment.
Reporting to the Team Leader - Planning this position has the following accountabilities.
- Provide front line customer service in the provision of in person queries and responding to telephone and electronic customer enquiries relating to development assessment matters, development potential, enforcement and planning policy.
- Assess the Planning Consent stage of development applications, undertaking any necessary procedural requirements.
- Identify different forms of development applications and progress them through the assessment process.
- Provide advice, under the guidance of more senior staff to support applicants, architects, developers and the public to achieve positive development outcomes.
- Respond to requests from elected members and other business units in relation to planning, development potential, enforcement, planning policy and general information and advice.
We are seeking applications from customer centric, committed, team orientated planning related professionals that enjoy being challenged in a dynamic, positive work setting.
Preferably you will have a degree in Urban and Regional Planning. While this is not essential an understanding and prior experience of legislation relevant to urban planning matters will be most favourable.
In this position you will work with subject matter experts that will furtherly mentor and coach you in your development assessment capabilities with increasing variety and complexity.
Your customer service skills may have been sharpened with prior experience in dealing with the public, elected members, developers, consultants, and representatives of other organisations in town planning matters, or you may have interpersonal and customer service skills gained elsewhere.

Note:
A Driver’s licence (car), an ability to climb ladders and work at heights (for site inspection), occasional out of hours attendance and regular attendance at Council Assessment Panel meetings (maximum 2 per month) is desired for this position.
