THE VALUE OF PLANNING … for environmental protection
Planning represents a coordinated approach to ensure that development is designed and located to minimise or prevent potential impacts, including on the natural environment.
This seminar examines how environmental values are addressed through planning policies or development applications.
Mark Stephens, Senior Environment and Community Development Manager, Stockland Communities QLD discusses how to plan a city with a sensitive receiving environment. Mark draws on Aura as a case study addressing integrated water cycle management, planning for biodiversity and the importance of stakeholder engagement in the development process.
Wayne Moffitt, Director and Principal Consultant at 28 South Environmental discusses the value of (flexible) planning - how considered diversion from the planning rules can deliver superior biodiversity outcomes. Wayne draws on recent project experience in the region.
About the speakers:
Wayne Moffitt is Director and the Principal Consultant that established 28 South Environmental, with twenty-four of experience as an environmental manager and ecologist in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, Wayne has an in-depth understanding of the unique qualities of these regions, their complex land management issues and the regulatory framework that affords them protection. Wayne has held ecology team lead roles in national and international urban design, engineering and environmental management firms, and has coordinated environmental planning approvals and management plans for a wide range of urban development, public infrastructure and resource development projects. He is very familiar with approval processes, and with facilitating development outcomes in sensitive environmental settings.
Mark Stephens joined Stockland in 2007 and leads sustainability planning, environmental management, infrastructure delivery and community development for one of Australia’s largest master planned communities, Aura. Mark’s industry experience spans over 20 years in Property Development with qualifications in Environmental Science and Landscape Architecture fuelling his passion for delivering sustainable communities.
