What does a climate positive Games mean?
The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be climate positive. This seminar will explore what this means and how planners can get involved in ensuring that climate positivity is achievable. Our three speakers will all bring their expertise and knowledge in relation to climate impacts of large events and discuss how a climate positive Games will hopefully revolutionise the way that development can occur in a sustainable manner.
Professor Brendan Mackey
Professor Brendan Mackey is Director of the Climate Action Beacon, Griffith University Queensland. He has a PhD in ecology from The Australian National University. Professor Mackey was Coordinating Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 6th Assessment Report on impacts, vulnerability & adaptation. He is an internally recognized expert in climate change adaptation including climate risk assessment and the evaluation of adaptation strategies and options. He has authored over 300 publications in the fields of climate, environment and sustainability, and has extensive experience in the translation of climate science into policy and practice.
Georgine Roodenrys
A dedicated sustainability specialist with over 20 years experience in the public and private sectors. Whether it be renewable energy, circular economy, natural capital, climate policy; Georgine’s career has been dedicated to aligning human development to planetary boundaries.
Nick Kamols 澳门2023全年正版免费资料 (Assoc.)
Nick is an innovative, passionate, highly motivated young planner, who is re-defining what it means to be a part of our profession. He co-founded a social enterprise, PowerWells, who repurpose used lithium-ion batteries, paired with solar panels, to give renewable energy to off-grid communities in Indonesia. Nick and his team have already given 270 homes renewable electricity and saved 7,000 battery cells from landfill – simultaneously inspiring other young planners to pursue entrepreneurial ventures and contribute to addressing climate issues in alternative ways. Nick is employed with Arup as a Planning Consultant and has recently was awarded the 澳门2023全年正版免费资料’s Young Planner of the Year Award. He has also recently attended the United Nations COP27 climate summit in Egypt.
