Peter Hyland M°ÄÃÅ2023È«ÄêÕý°æÃâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ, Regional Director, Urbis/Cistri discusses the development of the Orchard Road Masterplan. Orchard Road holds a special place in the heart of Singaporeans and is an internationally recognised shopping and lifestyle destination. A precinct with many distinct experiences, the Orchard Road Master Plan is a statutory planning document for the Urban Redevelopment Authority (the entity that controls Singapore’s planning and development framework) that seeks to enhance the offer of Orchard Road to ensure the values that have made it what it is today remain core to its offer into the future with the changing face of retail. Singapore is world renowned for its sub tropicality and the Orchard Road master plan enshrines these values into the statutory planning framework. Peter takes the audience on the journey of leading this project from inception to application – and the many planning lessons along the way.

Cross River Rail is a new 10.2 kilometre rail line from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills, which includes 5.9 kilometres of twin tunnels under the Brisbane River and the CBD. Graeme Newton, Chief Executive Officer, Cross River Rail Delivery Authority discusses the project’s progress so far and what to expect in 2021.

Cross River Rail will unlock a bottleneck at the core of South East Queensland’s transport network, allowing more trains to run more often and integrating with new roads and new bus services to enable a turn-up-and-go public transport system for the whole of South East Queensland. The project will also be a catalyst for urban renewal within and around its station precincts and Graeme takes you on a journey in time from what the project looks like now to what the project will deliver in the future.

About the speakers:

Peter Hyland M°ÄÃÅ2023È«ÄêÕý°æÃâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ is the Regional Director, based in Singapore, of Cistri the international business of Urbis Australia. Prior to establishing Cistri in 2016 he was the Regional Director for Urbis Queensland from 2000. Peter is one of the Asia-Pacific’s most respected urban land-use strategists. He has led large multidisciplinary teams on projects including inner city renewal and new city developments, major port and airport master plans, and resort and shopping centre developments. Peter’s 35-years’ experience spans Australia, the Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East. He has undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in urban planning and economics. He is passionate about helping cities and projects achieve great economic outcomes, to underpin the development of vibrant and successful places that benefit developers, investors, users and residents. His ability to marry economic and planning considerations has made him a trusted advisor internationally to major private and public companies and all levels of government.

Graeme Newton has led a number of large-scale, high profile and complex infrastructure projects during a career that spans over 25 years. He has served as the Director-General and Coordinator-General for the Department of Infrastructure and Planning and was CEO of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority following the 2011 Brisbane floods. He now leads Queensland’s largest infrastructure project, having been appointed as the CEO for the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority in 2017.
