How does the EPBC Act work and how is it relevant to development applications?

The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) is the Australian Government's key piece of environmental legislation which commenced 16 July 2000.

The EPBC Act is taken into consideration when assessing matters of environment, heritage protection, and biodiversity conservation at a Federal level.

So, what are the objectives of the Act and how does this impact on development applications?

This seminar will consider:

• the objectives of the EPBC Act;
• how the EPBC Act is relevant to development applications;
• the steps and criteria involved in an EPBC Act referral and approval;
• appeal rights; and
• what is happening with the review of the EPBC Act.

The discussion will also cover any relevant case law.
