2024 Planning and Environment Court Update
Curious about this year's Planning and Environment Court developments but not a fan of lengthy judgments?
Join us for a session to unpack this year's most prominent and pertinent cases and the advancements in the Planning and Environment Court with His Honour Judge Michael Williamson KC, Mitchel Batty KC ( Barrister at Byth Chambers) and Jennifer Morrissy (Director at Morrissy Town Planning). The session will be chaired by Wendy Evans, Partner Clayton Utz.

Judge Michael Williamson KC
Judge Williamson KC was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2004 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 2017.
Before turning to the law, his Honour worked as a quantity surveyor. Judge Williamson KC served as associate to his Honour Judge Thomas Quirk of the District Court of Queensland and the Planning and Environment Court from 2002 to early 2004. From 2004, his Honour practised as a Brisbane-based barrister where his Honour specialised in environmental and planning law.
Judge Williamson KC was appointed a judge of the District Court of Queensland on 19 March 2018 and a judge of the Planning and Environment Court on 29 March 2018
Mitchel Batty KC - Barrister, Byth Chambers
Mitchel Batty KC was called to the bar in 2012. He is a senior member of Byth Chambers. Mitchel's practice causes him to regularly appear in the Planning and Environment Court. Prior to being called to the Bar, Mitchel worked as a solicitor at both DLA Phillips Fox and Thomsons Lawyers.

Jennifer has over 25 years experience in statutory planning, local government planning and development assessment.
Jennifer is a recognised expert witness in Queensland’s Planning & Environment Court. Jennifer’s court experience includes the provision of evidence in merits appeals, declaratory proceedings and reporting on highest and best use for valuation and compensation claim matters.
Jennifer has participated in numerous appeals to the Planning and Environment Court as an expert witness. Jennifer initially gained on-the-job training by "shadowing" experienced expert witnesses (like Chris Buckley, Greg Vann and Jenny Roughan), and has since independently worked on a number of appeals, seeing most of them resolved via mediation. Jennifer has also given evidence in Court.
