Holtze to Elizabeth River Subregional Land Use Plan
Northern Territory Planning Commission Chairperson Dr David Ritchie with support from DIPL Lands Planning staff

Land of the Traditional Owners: The Larrakia people

The judges decided to award a commendation in this category to the NT Planning Commission’s Holtze to Elizabeth Subregional Land Use Plan in recognition of the extensive community consultation undertaken as part of this project.

Consultation was undertaken in 3 stages over an aggregate period of 12 weeks, and resulted in over 150 written submissions, 80 surveys completed, 10 newspaper and media articles, and 4 public events. The consultation was guided by the Planning Commission’s Community Engagement Policy and IAP2 principles.

The judges were impressed by the level of engagement from the community that the Planning Commission and DIPL staff achieved which is a testament to the Commission’s established engagement processes. The judges were also impressed to see how community feedback was incorporated into the final Land Use Plan, including the re-identification of areas formerly earmarked for more intense development becoming outdoor recreation areas and providing corridors between important wildlife habitats.

Through its extensive community consultation process, the Planning Commission has demonstrated a real commitment to the community and the consultative process.
