Transforming Public Space through Play
Gregor H. Mews - University of the Sunshine Coast

Land of the Traditional Owners: Land of the Gubbi Gubbi as well as Jinibara

Transforming Public Space through Play is a great example of innovative and practical planning which shows the planning community new ways of thinking about planning for public space in cities.

The author develops and tests a novel urban analysis framework called the City-Play-Framework(CPF) - a multi-method urban analysis tool designed for urban designers/planners to advance public space planning by taking non-instrumental everyday life behaviours like “play” into consideration

This research project takes a new direction by consciously incorporating openness and ambiguity into more traditional planning thinking to enable lovable public spaces for all.

The judges applauded the project for taking public space planning in a new direction to develop a framework that has the potential to be applied widely.
